Astrological Signs – Understanding Houses

While you might look up your weekly or daily horoscope in the newspaper to get an idea of what is in store for you in the near future, it’s usually pretty vague and not very accurate (much like a fortune cookie). Everyone who has a birthday does have an astrological sign, and predictions about their lives can be made based on that birth date. However, if you want to get a really in-depth idea of what is going on in your life, you should consider having an astrological chart reading.

Well, those newspaper horoscopes can’t really delve into what is unique about your astrological chart. An astrological chart reading isn’t just about what day you were born, but what time and where. This tells the chart reader where the planets were the exact moment you were born, giving your chart special meaning for you. Not only can the planets influence you and your life, but where they were is just as important and influential.

Where to start?

If you look at most astrology charts, you’ll notice 12 different sections. Each of these sections represents an area of the sky. Each area is called a “house.” Simply put, a house represents a different aspect of your personality or part of your life. Which planet was in which house when you were born tells the reader a lot about you.

So, let’s start at the beginning. The first house is often referred to as the ascendant house. It’s the house that influences your personality: what kind of initial impression do you give to people, how you care for yourself mentally and physically, and possibly the early childhood experiences you had that may have helped shape who you are now. Which planet is in the first house when you are born can have a profound influence on who you are. For example, if Mars is in your first house, you may be a person who is highly energetic (more on planetary influences later).
